Morning at the Taj

When I arrived the day before at Agra, I immediately went near Mehtab Bagh, a garden with a nice view behind the Taj on the other side of the Yamuna river. I was so disappointed to discover scaffolding on the North East minaret. The winter “fog” was also really present, and at 10am, due to sunlights, the Taj was only a grey shadow from the other side of the river, only 100m from there. Ouch, no good news. I tried to convince me that tomorrow would be better, but disappointment was huge. I woke up at 5.30am the next day, to be one of the first to enter the site at sunrise, ticket already bought online before leaving. A couple of minutes past 6, the queue was already 20 meters long, ouch. Finally, the East door opened around 7.00, 15 minutes of adrenaline, discovering the impressive monument and trying to find out framing with no people. Only a few seconds on each spot, then "strategic" move to another one. Even if I deeply checked before coming every potential spot, once inside, this is definitely different. The site was crowded, but most of people went directly inside the mausoleum after the garden and the usual shots with water reflection. Atlantic Road

The famous national road 64 section, in Norway, also known as "The Atlantic Road", before sunset. An 8km road which runs through small islands, spanned by eight bridges and several landfills along the Atlantic. Treasury in the night

On our way back to the city of Petra at the end of the day, the treasury place full of light candles and dim lighting, ready for the "Petra by night" event. Princes of Edinburgh

End of day over Edinburgh, Scotland, from Calton Hill. Calton Hill is probably the most famous photo spot in Edinburgh, with an amazing view on Princes Street and its monuments. I arrived just for sunset on the hill, many photographers were already ready, just over Dugald Stewart Monument. I decided to check around if any spot was less crowded. I finally decided to stop at the bottom of Nelson Monument, with this perspective of Princes Street. I then waited one hour to get the lights over the monuments and enough traffic in the street.

Sunrise over Mafate

One of the best sunrise spots on the Reunion Island, the incredible cirque of Mafate from the Maido. On our third day at Reunion Island, we had to wake up very early, around 4 o'clock, to reach the summit for the sunrise (a 1 hour drive from Saint Paul). We almost missed the moment, as it is nearly impossible to overtake any car in the tiny mountain road which head to the Maido... Vancouver by night

4.00 AM. Robson Street, Vancouver, BC. My first night in Canada after a 10 hours flight from Paris on Monday. A short night, as I woke up at 3.00 am due to jet lag. So I decided to unpack my stuff and spent the rest of the night taking pictures of the city from the hotel balcony, and processed it. Sunset over

First day at Grand Teton National Park, on my way back from Solitude lake after hiking more than 10 hours, half of the time on a fully snowy trail. The sun was setting down on a tiny lake along the path. We stopped just a few minutes in this absolutely quiet place, as we still had a long way to come back to the campground. I wished I could stay longer to enjoy the sunset, but I was still 4 hours away from the camp. I had to finish the trail hiking by night in the bear territory, but it was worth every step. Reflection

I spot this amazing place weeks ago before leaving to NZ, but I finally had only 1 free day to hike here, so only one chance to get perfect conditions. I started the hike around 2pm, but all the mountains were completely surrounded by the clouds with no visibility. I met a few hikers on their way back down, same reply: summit is invisible and hidden behind the clouds. No way ! I crossed the fingers and followed the hike, as weather may change very quickly over there. When I finally reached the spot around 4.30pm, the summit was half covered by clouds, but at least visible. Tripod in position, camera ready, I made a few shots. I was really excited, seeing clouds moving until having an absolutely clear overview. I finally decided to wait until the sunset, despite the long way back to return. This has been very rewarding, some high clouds appeared, and the light became absolutely stunning. I did not see anybody of the whole afternoon, without any sounds than my camera. Just a really magic moment I will probably keep in my mind for a while. The way back down was a bit less exciting, with no torch (forgot in the car) nor phone (no more battery…) to light the path. I ran as fast as I can during 30 minutes until the dust, but an additional hour in a total dark (no moon) through a very dense forest has been necessary. First ray over the Sound

Sunrise on my last day at Milford Sound, NZ, the day after finishing the famous 4 days hike, the Milford track. Such a weather in this place is absolutely not common, as it rains approximatively 7 meters a year at Milford Sound, one of the wettest places on earth. I woke up just before the sunrise, and immediately looked at the sky through the window, even if the forecast was, as usual, rain. Eyes still half-closed, I thought it was totally overcast, as the sky seemed like all grey. After a shower to wake me up, I finally realized that the sky was actually all blue without any cloud. I got dressed in a few seconds, and ten minutes later, I was on the shore, tripod in place to start shooting the first rays over the sound. 2 hours later, the rain was back, but I left the place happy, I got what I was looking for. --- Canon EOS 5D Mark III + EF16-35mm f/4L IS USM @16mm, f/6.3, ISO 50, 1/20 Blending of 2 series (foreground / background) of 5 raws (-2/+2 IL)

Aoraki/Mt Cook at sunset

Sunset over the Mount Cook, aka Aoraki (its Maori name), the New Zealand Highest summit, along the Lake Pukaki and the road heading to the amazing Hooker Valley and its glacier. Spaghetti Junction

Shot on the very last evening before leaving Auckland and NZ, this place called "Spaghetti Junction" (no need further explanation I guess) is a junction of several Highways near the city center. I arrived the day before from the South Island around 11pm, and I immediately walked several kilometres the to find this incredible spot to be completely ready for my only chance. I began to shoot at the sunrise and finish 1 hour and a half later at dusk. Due to public holiday for Easter in NZ, there wasn't so much traffic, and I had to wait to get enough cars. The Water Palace

Jal Mahal, meaning basically the water Palace, located in the middle of Man Sagar Lake, was the main reason to come in Jaipur, capital of the Rajasthan. Even if there is a lot of more beautiful places in and around Jaipur, I found that place incredibly photogenic, specially at sunrise. I woke up around 05.30, used TPE to find the right location, and when I arrived, the place was still quite et peaceful, contrasting with the usual noisy mess at daytime. The light was just perfect thanks to a slightly foggy ambiance that morning. Unfortunately, the place is also reflecting one of India's biggest trouble. Face A is amazing, but face B is very different. Edges of lake are used as garbage dump, and I was literally surrounded by rats while taking my pictures in the middle of rubbish. This is hard with our occidental culture to admit that incredible heritage is not better preserved, but this is unfortunately far from people daily life concerns over there. Sunrise over lavenders

Woke up at 5am after a (too) short night to reach this quite famous sunrise spot a few kilometres east from Valensole. I arrived just on time. Two photographers were already there. End of the day at Valensole

Sunset over lavender field, Provence, France. I finally choose this spot to finish my 2017 lavender trip. I search for it last year with no success, then I had to take my revenge this year. I was alone from the golden hour to the night to enjoy all perpective of this amazing place. Yuan Meng upside down, 8 month old, the first born panda in France at ZooParc de Beauval. You have to be either (very) patient or (very) lucky to catch this cute little ball of fur in action.
